1973 models were completely redesigned from the 1971-72 generation. For the first time since its introduction, the LTDs now shared the same sedan rear roofline with its lesser Galaxie and Custom brethren.

The LTD differed from its lesser Galaxie and Custom brethren by offering fancier trim, more powerful engines, more standard features (as well as a higher sticker price). Base engine was now the smaller 5.8L (351 cid) 2 bbl V8, with the 400-2 and 429-4 as options. The LTD was available in 2- and 4-door hardtop models. Notable for its bigger sway bars and brakes, it also included bench seats with an automatic trunk opener located underneath the steering wheel. Taillights (either intentionally or unintentionally) resembled the 1966 model, with an additional red-reflective taillight panel that ran across the rear of the car below the taillights above the bumper. The LTD was split off into its own model for 1967, while the Galaxie name continued on lower-line models through 1974.

The LTD line ceased to exist after 1991, when the fullsize Ford became just Crown Victoria. The LTD II styling was also adapted to update the final generation of the Ford Ranchero.

De Ford LTD was een automodel van het Amerikaanse merk Ford.

In the rear, the long-running styling theme of twin round or square "jet exhaust" taillights were replaced by horizontal taillights on all full-size Fords. Though it retained the same body and frame of the 1965-1967 models, the 1968 model featured horizontal hidden headlights and a more formal looking roof style.

The next largest engine was Ford's 351 CID V8, which was the most common choice.

By now the LTD had established itself as a key player in the upper-level full-size market, being a true competitor to the Ford again completely restyled the LTD this year, cashing in on the new "longer-lower-wider" craze that was popular in this era. Inside, the door handles eliminated the squeeze-type in favor of a more conventional pull-type. The Ford LTD II is an automobile that was marketed and produced by Ford Motor Company between 1977 and 1979 in the United States and Canada. The headlights were still hidden, and a body-colored center divider split the grille horizontally. The tail treatment was revised also - the red reflective tail panel was eliminated and the taillights went from square to rectangular, and they also got rid of the reverse lights in the center, a first for the LTD since its introduction. The line was introduced in 1965 as the Galaxie 500 LTD (and for the first year was badged as such), in response to the introduction of the Chevrolet Caprice and the similar Dodge Monaco and Polara. The LTD seemed to take after Chrysler's famed "fuselage" style that they introduced this year on their full-size line, which to some made the LTD look less sleek and a bit more larger and heavier than before (which it was). There was also a Ford Cougar equivalent to the North American Mercury Marquis.Congratulations on this excellent venture… what a great idea!I use WIKI 2 every day and almost forgot how the original Wikipedia looks like. The front side marker lights were changed from white to amber, and the engine displacement callouts were eliminated. A locally produced stretch limousine was also produced. Toch behield de auto van meer dan twee ton en met enkel grote V8-motoren een bijzonder hoog verbruik. It was the last model with the 119" wheelbase. Bodystyles were the same as before, starting with a 2-door coupe, 4-door sedan and a 5-door wagon. Outside of North America, the 1966 Ford Galaxie 500 was manufactured in South America into the 1980s and marketed as the Ford LTD. Now that the Galaxie and Custom models were gone (the Custom models, however, continued as strictly a fleet model), the LTD was now Ford's sole full-size offering. The From 1968 to 1970, the LTD shared top-of-the line trim pieces featuring a grille with The 1968 model changed from stacked headlights to a horizontal arrangement behind hidden headlight covers. The standard upgrades on these cars were power windows, a power driver's seat, power brakes, power steering, air conditioning, a full or half-vinyl top (called a landau or brougham randomly across different models by the same manufacturers). The LTD II was essentially a restyled Torino, and continued until 1979. All else continued as before. Still larger was Ford's 400 CID The Galaxie nameplate was discontinued after 1974, leaving the Custom 500 as the base trim full-size Ford, then LTD, LTD Brougham, and the new LTD Landau at the top of the series for the 1975 model year. The LTD was redesigned for 1973. The front side marker lights were white accompanied by the engine displacement callouts. As such, the running gear was identical to the Fairmont. Ride quality improved as well with the new car, as did fuel economy. Henry Ford ruilde de plannen van zijn auto en de 17 patenten tegen 255 aandelen en werd hoofdingenieur en ondervoorzitter. Inside, the new dashboard wrapped around the driver which put many more controls closer to the touch, but many critics derided the radio position, which was now to the upper left, defying convention. These were produced with bucket seats and center consoles; the console was similar to the console in the XLs and Mercury Marauders of 1969–1970, with a "stirrup" style shift handle.A modified 1971 Ford Custom is featured prominently in the 1973 American film Approximately 7,850,000 full-size Fords and Mercurys were sold over the 1969–1978 period. For the first time since the 1940s, the full-size Ford line was powered exclusively by When Ford updated its mid-size product line for 1977, they took on the LTD name as well. A 3-speed automatic transmission was the sole transmission choice.

Along with the addition of side marker lights and reflectors, the parking lights illuminated with the headlights; front outboard shoulder belts were fitted to cars built effective January 1, 1968. From the mid-1984 model year and throughout the 1985 model year, Ford had a performance version of the LTD marketed as the Police Package editions were also produced alongside the LX. In 1966, the LTD officially became a model independent from the Galaxie 500.
